Coatings Technician (Hayward, CA)

Location: Hayward, California
Status: Full Time

Job Description:

The Coatings Technician is a direct labor position within the Production Team whose main responsibilities are to process parts within the Twin Arc Spray room according to written processes and known practices. There are three levels of competency within this group:

Technician I, can only perform these duties under supervision of skilled technician.
Technician II, ability to perform these duties with some supervision.
Lead Technician III, person who has ability to perform all duties with limited or no supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety First. Employee has been trained and is to follow all general safety requirements of Pentagon Technologies, as well as specific safety requirements within the Twin Arc Spray team. Employee should be safety conscience for their safety and the safety of those they work with. Proper use and care of the equipment they use and the safety equipment they wear. Employee will be trained on general safety requirements at time of hire, and specific requirements within this team during the first 90 days of his/her employ.
  • Employee is responsible to mask parts requiring coating process according to prints attached to traveler. Spraying part on surface requiring process. Detailing coating build up along tape edge and masked area. Maintain equipment. Change contact tips, guide line tips and feed line as required after inspection. Clean equipment with vacuum and air sprayer to reduce dust build up. Clean hoods of aluminum build up and dust. Empty dust collector drum of filtered dust and cyclone drum. Maintain fixtures in good working order.
  • Understand and follow operating procedures as assigned to the team to assure consistent, reliable, and timely processing of parts within this team.
  • Ability to perform under pressure, and the ability to bring to management in a clear, concise, and professional manner all potential conflicts in the performance of their duties.
  • Has an appreciation for timeliness, quality, and punctuality. This includes following all rules and regulations, including safety, attendance, breaks, time off, and etc. established by management.
  • Maintains organization and cleanliness of assigned areas.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Technician I & II have no supervisory responsibilities.
  • Technician III Supervisory Responsibilities, as assigned by the Production Manager, shall include but are not limited to, a complete and thorough understanding of the department functions. Must have good communication skills, comprehend and employ the Pentagon Technologies MIS system as it relates to their functions, have the ability manage time allocations of all assigned staff, and be able to manage minor conflicts within the team.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Technician I, II, III:
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily within the skill sets listed above.
  • Should have patience to perform work in quality manner, such as detailing parts to prevent rework do to scratches on coating as well as blast and finished surfaces.
  • Should have patience in masking to assure tolerance according to specification of print.
  • A willingness to learn and work with the department and other departments to provide on time work along with the requirements of engineering.
  • Ability to read and comprehend internal documents such as work order travelers, inventory records, logs and general company records.
  • Basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication skills in order to process inventory, counting, time allocation, and work hours.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Technician I:
  • High School education or GED.
  • 6 months experience in masking and taping parts for grit texturizaiton, and chemical striping of depositions.
  • Able to read and understand prints on areas of texturizaition and coating application.
  • Able to identify damage to parts, especially critical surfaces, excessive part ware, etching, etc.
  • Technician II:
  • High School education or GED.
  • 1 year experience in masking and taping parts for grit texturizaiton, and chemical striping of depositions.
  • Continuing education classes in quality or measurement.
  • Able to read and understand prints on areas of texturizaition and coating application.
  • Able to identify damage to parts, especially critical surfaces, excessive part ware, etching, etc.
  • Ability to use a profilometer, micrometer, calipers and height gage to assure the application of coating.
  • Basic computer skills and/or Robotic Operations.
  • Technician III:
  • High School education or GED.
  • 3 years experience in masking and taping parts for grit texturizaiton, and chemical striping of depositions.
  • College level study in engineering working toward degree in either Engineering or Science.
  • Able to read and understand prints on areas of texturizaition and coatings application.
  • Able to identify damage to parts, especially critical surfaces, excessive part ware, etching, etc. Ability to use profilometer, micrometer, calipers and height gage to assure the application of coating.
  • Ability to run department to assure processes are followed and organize processing to achieve on time delivery of jobs.
  • Basic computer knowledge and/or robotic programming techniques.
  • Must be able to learn Robotic programming techniques.

Work Environment:

  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
  • Must be able to work in a controlled confined, noisy environment that requires ear/eye protection at all time. Persons, who are sensitive to confine, noisy environments with such medical conditions as asthma, allergies, or extreme sensitivity to confine, noisy environment areas may not be considered as good candidates for this position.

Physical Demands:

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Must pass company required physical/screening tests.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, reach with hands and arms and be able to handle parts that weigh up to fifty pounds without assistance. Employee must be at least 5"4", and be in good relative health. No accommodations can be made to enable individuals with major disabilities to perform these essential functions.
