Sustaining Engineering (Hayward, CA)

Job Description:

The sustaining engineer leads the sustaining engineering activities within the plant to satisfy daily production requirements, accomplish key facility projects, and troubleshoot existing processes in accordance with the organization’s goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Key account team participation and ownership form an engineering support perspective
  • Work with customers on scope and schedule of new product introduction
  • Design new processes, review existing processes, BKMs, methods, equipment and process controls and ensure that they meet EH&S, customer, and organizational requirements.
  • Identify CIP opportunities in the factory and coordinate their execution.
  • Organize and present a monthly management review and weekly quality review.
  • Drive Pentagon's change control process at the factory level.
  • Address and coordinate the resolution of customer quality issues.
  • Recruit, assign and direct the activities of the plant manufacturing engineering team in accordance with organizational goals.
  • Participate in the Engineering Forum to drive best practice sharing and CIP activities in the plant.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.
  • Establish G&O's for direct reports and monitor the established metrics for each.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • BS degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering or related technical degree.
  • 3 years managing a team of at least 3 or more employees.
  • Must possess the ability to achieve a complete and thorough understanding of the computer database MIS system as it relates to production issues of quantity, and paperwork required to process order within Pentagon Technologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret customer and internal documents such as purchase orders, shipping manifests, packing slips, and written procedures in English.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Analytical and mathematical skills are an essential element of this position. Candidate must possess excellent spreadsheet and data base management skills, along with good general computer and statistical reasoning abilities.
  • Ability to solve problems, involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • A thorough understanding of plant operations and structure, as well as the ability to interpret queries and comments to assure that customer related issues are directed to the correct department and resource.
  • Ability to write, understand and follow operating procedures as assigned to the department to assure consistent, reliable, and timely responses of non-conformance or plant process issues
  • Ability to perform under pressure, and the ability to handle and/or resolve conflict in a professional and courteous manner.

Work Environment:

  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The environment will be split between an office environment and a chemical processing line. Must be able to work in a group environment and be a self-starter and hands on approach.

Physical Demands:

  • The employee is regularly required to sit and stand, reach with hands and arms and perform light routine office work, which includes computer workstation usage.
  • Must pass company required hearing, physical and drug screening tests.
